The Iris is the symbol of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in recognition of the many contributions of those with mental illness, as represented by Vincent Van Gogh's painting of Irises during his hospitalization for mental illness.

What a lovely thought. Do Irises grown in CA? I don't think so because we don't get cold enough climate... but I will find out... and if they do I will do as you ask.

Hi, Patricia! Thanks so much for visiting me...so nice to meet you and find your friendly place here in blogland! :o) I've always appreciated the works of Van Gogh, and especially this one of irises. I didn't know though, the the iris was the symbol for mental illness awareness...learn something every day--love that! Happy weekend :o)
